About us
SEMM
at a Glance
Founded in 2001 by the pioneering vision of Professor Umberto Veronesi, the European School of Molecular Medicine (SEMM), obtained the Third Sector Entity (ETS) status in 2023. It was born from the collaboration of charities, universities, and research centers united by one mission: to advance biomedical education and research. Its founding members—AIRC, Telethon, FIEO, CEINGE, UNIMI, and UNINA—are joined today by FUV, HT, IEO, IFOM, INGM, TIGEM
Milestones
From the very beginning, SEMM has anticipated emerging scientific challenges and prepared the experts needed to address them. Over the first decade, the experience gained in managing multiple PhD programs led, in 2013, to the creation of the PhD Program in Systems Medicine. This program embodies the innovative and multidisciplinary approach that has always guided our educational vision. The excellence of this model was officially recognized in 2022, when the Italian Ministry of University and Research awarded us the status of PhD Program of National Interest.
Mission
SEMM’s mission is embodied in its flagship PhD Program in Systems Medicine, which unites leading universities, research centers, and hospitals across Italy. By fostering scientific excellence, personalized mentorship, and collaboration across disciplines, SEMM trains experts in Precision and Personalized Medicine through innovative educational programs that integrate teaching and research.
Activities
SEMM develops training programs that integrate basic research and clinical practice.
Our interdisciplinary approach equips students with the skills to face the emerging challenges of modern biomedicine
Governance
The Foundation is led by President Prof. Pier Giuseppe Pelicci, together with Scientific Director Dr. Bruno Amati and Administrative Director Ms. Laura Massardi. An Advisory Board, composed of representatives from the core partner institutions, ensures strategic oversight, while a Scientific Board supervises research and training activities.
