Enrollment
Admitted candidates are enrolled as PhD students at the University of Milan, the administrative site and awarding body of the program, and receive full student status with access to university services (e.g. libraries, licensed software, and student benefits).
All administrative procedures and official documents, including certificates, are managed through the University’s online platform. The SEMM graduate office will provide support and guidance through the process.
PhD enrolment must be renewed annually, following a positive evaluation by the PhD Program Faculty.
Affiliation
PhD students will be affiliated with one of the participating research institutes or universities, where they will conduct their thesis work. This affiliation provides full access to the host site’s services, facilities, and research infrastructure. Students will receive institutional support and are required to adhere to the host institution’s policies, procedures, and regulations throughout their PhD.
Fellowship
Each PhD students will be granted a fully funded fellowship for the entire period of the phd, corresponding to an annual gross salary of 25000 euros. Italian health insurance for foreigners is also provided
Student’s budget
From Year 1, PhD students receive an annual research budget of approximately €4,000 (“quota studenti”) to support research-related activities. Use of the funds—including travel—must be agreed with the supervisor (PI) and comply with the policies of the host institution (including the University, where applicable).
Eligible expenses include meetings with external advisors, practical courses (e.g. EMBO-style), European and international conferences or workshops, research collaborations, and fourth-year job interviews.
