Health & Well Being
Your Supervisor is the primary point of reference for scientific guidance and professional development. In addition, the Thesis Committee (TC) provides ongoing feedback, mentorship, and support throughout the PhD, helping students reflect on progress and future directions.
Equally important is the PhD community itself. Lab mates, cohort peers, and the wider SEMM student network offer daily support, shared experience, and a sense of belonging that is central to well-being.
The SEMM Graduate Office is available to assist with administrative matters, career development, mentoring, and, when needed, mediation or guidance in navigating challenges. Students are encouraged to reach out at any time.
SEMM also supports peer representation and mentoring initiatives, which help strengthen communication between students and faculty and foster an inclusive, supportive academic environment. Connecting with more senior researchers or alumni who have successfully completed their PhD can provide valuable perspective, reassurance, and inspiration throughout the doctoral journey.
